My lap top has a virus?

its been acting slow and wont open one of my folders on my lap top. i believe this is a virus. what do i do? i tried running avg but everytime it starts scaning the "virus" it closes!!! please some one help me!

It depends on how bad the virus is. If avg wont scan properly and if your laptop is very slow i would say take it to your local computer shop where they do a complete scan and get rid of any virus.

I had a really bad virus once it nearly broke my laptop so I took it to a computer shop and they fixed it.

I think you may have to take a risk in such a situation. Please try to install another anti - virus which can be preferably NOD32 or Avera. Then uninstall the AVG from the system. There is a chance that the fresh installation would detect AVG inside and may ask you to remove it first. There the risk is. Anyway your AVG is also helpless. Then you try the way i said. If the problem still exists you may have to format your primary drive in which your OS is installed.

                          OR

You can go for the system restore as my friend has said above. Using this you can restore to a safe point where your laptop was not infected. Choose the date correctly.

Update your antivirus. Then restart your system in safemode or safemode with networking. Now scan your computer with antivirus.

If it too doesn't help then check this site and get best protection.

u need to take it to a shop u need a computer that  does not have the virus to scan i if u try anything else then the virus will attack that to just as it did here u can do nothing in your own power get help befor u crash.  

it may be your com has fragmented files use disk cleanup this may help a lot.... that reminds me

Could be a root kit trojan (yeah a virus kind of thing).

These can be very difficult to remove because they detect the removal software and react to it (stop it running). They usually install 'fake' system files that aren't even visible through the normal OS. They also block the common web sites that provide information on virus removal.

If you can't get to it then I would say you probably do have a rootkit trojan.

I did have one of these once. The solution was to boot the computer from a CD (say Windows Recovery) and delete the offending files from the DOS prompt.

Then run full scans using the latest anti-malware/virus software.

If you do have one of these you probably need to have a skilled person remove it.

This is only IF you have one, it could be something non-virus related. Try accessing the above website and scanning with Malwarebytes AM to determine if you have an infection.

have you tried system restore to a date prior to having problems with the laptop?  programs, accessories, system tools, system restore

start--programs--accesories--system restore

restores your computer back to an earlier time that you pick (before you had the virus lol)

if that doesnt work, look for a System Recovery cd around your house that came with the laptop and use that.
