My learning model - need your input?

This is a very effective model that I have been using to read, understand and summarize books. Please provide any suggestions/improvements and do try it out with any book/article.

Name - PRO

Preview the book (preferably 2-3 times)

Read the book (Read it chapter by chapter and create a mind map of every chapter)

Organize (Organize mind map into a complete 'my own' version of book that I can understand quickly, teach it to others and apply in my life)

Any suggestions?

  1. I really like your model.  I'm betting that when you use this method, you have a very thorough understanding of the book and a good ability to remember themes, general concepts and specific facts.

There are a couple of things you're doing I especially like.

First that you preview the book 2-3 times.  That would really get your mind creating a schema for what's inside and what you're likely to learn.

Second the creation of a mind map for every chapter.  Do you do this as you read, or after you finish the chapter?

Third, the final My Own version of the book mind map.  I'm curious about this.  Are you creating your mind maps with software, or on paper (sticky notes so they can be manipulated?). Is the final version inclusive of the chapter mind maps or entirely new?

Great thinking!  Can I borrow it and add it to my website?
