My saxophone is weird. help!!

`I need a lyre for my saxophone and some lyres have the square kind of stem. But the hole that it goes into on my instument is round. The lyre wont fit and i desperately need one for marching band. Do you know where i can get one from or some sort of substitute for any suggestions on what to do. This is my firfst year of marching band. (9th grade) i really need some help!

Not sure. But if worse comes to worse, you can get a flute lyre (you wear it on your arm).

I think you're just going to have to modify one... all I can find are the square ones too!

You could shave one down, as another poster suggested, or you could try buying one for a Bb clarinet and cutting the ring off, bending it, etc.  I think you may have a problem using the flute lyre, as your arms sit at a different angle than an flute...

Anyways, you may want to CALL a music supply place (like wwbw.com, musiciansfriend.com) and see if they know of any brands that could help you, or of course, go to your local music store!

You could probably try shaving down the square-shaped stem. Use sandpaper or a file used for metal to make it round. If you make it too small, there should be something you could use to tighten it anyway. Although, I would always recommend memorizing your music if possible. My marching band was practically ridiculed by judges because most of my band used lyres. Have fun in marching band!

I am in band too! (Yeah...) Not marching, however, my school is too small. But I play saxophone, also and generally, any music supply store has lyres for marching.

ask your band director for help on this one
