Ive had my two parakeets since May 26th. they came from the same pet shop and i purchased them together, so they have been together for a while.

im not sure what their s*x is, but they just started fighting two days ago for no reason!

the tamer one beats up the less tame one.

  1. To find their gender, follow this guide:

    - a female parakeet will have a brownish//tan cere (the patch of skin right above the beak)

    - a male will have a purple//blue cere (patch above the beak)

Now, sometimes what looks like fighting isn't always fighting. I have a male and a female parakeet and they seem to generate the loudest chirping fight and bite fight, yet it's completely harmless. If there is any blood or what seems to be a problem with one of your birds, seprate them immedieatly.

  2. Generally, female parakeets are more agressive and territorial than male parakeets, so that might be the case here, if you've on of each. Also, and I know this sounds like one fo those cocky bullshit answers often given on here, but truly, birds are as individual as people and other pets. It's quite possible that the one is just an a*****e.

Since you say it's the tamer one being an a*****e, it's quite possibly because since it likely subsequently gets more attention or gets along well with people/you, it doesn't want another threatening that relationship. sounds like the c**p only humans could pull, but it can happen among others as well.

In any case, I'd get separate cages for them. I've had parakeets, and one instance where one ended up getting picked on, and it's not good to leave them in such a situation.
