NBA: Carmelo Anthony still available?
The seemingly forgotten superstar Carmelo Anthony is making the headlines. The NBA has seemed to realize that there was another great free-agent from the same NBA 2003 drafting season, apart from LeBron James, Dywane Wade and Chris Bosh.
Denver Nuggets have offered him an open $65 million three-year extension but it has been on the table all summer long. Carmelo is still not sure whether to leave the team and join one which could provide him with a better supporting cast.
Rumours ignited recently that the New York Knicks could be one of the teams Carmelo could opt for. However, there are other teams that could offer him an amazing backup which could end the championship-less All-Star player’s title hunt.
With that said, let’s take a quick look at a few teams he could possibly join and create enough fire power to fight with the Miami Heat in the upcoming 2011 regular-season.
Oklahoma City Thunder
The team already consists of upcoming stars like Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, an addition of Anthony to the team would only make it stronger. Oklahoma might not be considered the best team out there but they have won as many matches as the Chicago Bulls in a regular season last year. Kevin being only 21 is the face of the Thunders and has almost single handily led his team to many victories.
Experts say the Thunders have a great chance of becoming one of the most feared teams in the NBA if they remain consistent. However, the only thing missing in the team is a veteran, who will mentor them. Who could be better than Carmelo Anthony? He is a player who has made it to the play offs seven times in his seven year career.
The Chicago Bulls
Chicago is being rated as an A-Grade team by many sports analysts. The team is a powerhouse, with remarkable players like Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah on the roster and their recent signing of Carlos Boozer, who was considered to be amongst the big fish in the free-agency this year. Experts say, although the Bulls roster seemed to be full, they could make a trade with the Nuggets. Forwards James Johnson and Taj Gibson could be easily traded in for Carmelo.
Carmelo would fill in the spot for the missing true small forward. This change could make the Bulls an A+ team, not that they aren’t only one of the most praised teams this season. Fans are keeping their fingers crossed this season hoping the Bulls would revive their legacy which was once created by the God of basketball Michael Jordan. If Chicago does decide to acquire Carmelo, the duo between Carlos and Derrick would turn into a lethal trio, and unquestionably the three would give the Miami three-peat some major trouble.
New York Knicks
Last but not the least the Nicks, where all the rumours of Carlos leaving the Denver Nuggets started. Reportedly, the Knicks after being shunted by LeBron, do not seem to have lost hope. The franchise which is widely being considered plain desperate is still moping around the free-agent pool hoping they find lost treasure. Carmelo Anthony could very well be the ‘one’ for them, with his astronomical scoring average and his swingman abilities he could literally be a perfect fit in any team. The Knicks recently signed on Amar’e Stoudemire stealing him from the Phoenix Suns, leaving poor Steve Nash all alone.
Amare’ came to the New York Knicks with the thought he’d be able to convince LeBron to join him and together they would dominate. Sadly LeBron told him off too, leaving Amare’ all alone with a useless supporting cast. They say what goes around comes back around, some say Amare’ got what he deserved. However, that might not be the case as the Knicks have a large salary cap space and could offer Carmelo something he might not reject. If the deal actually comes through, New York Knicks supporters will have something to brag about after a long time.
