NBA - Top dunks in history
This topic is so vast, there are probably more than hundreds articles written on it every month. Dunking the ball into the basket is one of the most cheered-upon move a player could make. There are several types of dunks, regular dunk, rim hanging dunk, slam dunk, reverse dunk, 360 dunk etc.
One could date back 60 years from now and take a glance at the heart-stopping dunks made by various players, however this list exclusively consists of the best dunks made by legends in the history of National Basketball Association.
John Starks on Michael and Horace Grant
The reason this dunk ranks number one is because a right-handed player dunked from his left hand on one of the most feared duos in the NBA history; Michael Jordon and Horace Grant. John came in from the right-side revving towards the two players and blasted of like a rocket before the legends could have stopped him. The dunk almost ended the game for the Bulls; the New York Knicks were very close to winning the game from the 90’s undefeated favourites the Chicago Bulls.
Kobe Bryant over Denver Nuggets
Ron Artest threw the ball from under the net to Kobe, who was halfway across the court; Bryant caught the ball, dribbling it behind the back jumped into the air, and dunked over the defender. This dunk is much talked about till date is because catching a long pass while dribbling the ball behind your back and not breaking the momentum, and making a finesse dunk is simply epic!
Michael Jordan’s dunk on Patrick Ewing
Michael Jordon decided in 1991 playoffs nothing could and would stop him, and not only did he take the NBA title home. He slam dunked on Patrick Ewing hard, they say the rim was in much pain later, Jordan’s booming dunk got the people of their seats as some were in dismay and some could not stop screaming. Ewing is known to be one of the most terrifying centres of all time; it was believed going around the centre was almost impossible let alone jumping over him.
Kevin Johnson on Hakeem Olajuwon
One of the most momentous dunks in history with pure emotion was when Kevin Johnson dunked over Hakeem Olajuwon in the 1994 NBA playoffs. The 6’1” Kevin slammed the ball right through the hoop before the 7 feet giant could even blink his eye. The dunk was uncanny with raw power and sentiment Kevin came in from the left and lifted off the ground and took a 180 degree turns, and just nailed it.
Baron Davis on Andrei Kirilenko
The 6’3” remarkable player Baron came running towards the pole when the Russian AK47 Andrei Kirilenko charged at Davis but could not stop him. Baron smudged his left hand across Kirklenko’s face while bolting his right hand into the net. The crowd stood up roared with sound level meter rising up 108. This dunk was considered the dunk of the 2007 playoff season. However the Golden State Warriors lost to the Utah Jazz that season later on.
Vince Carter destroys Alonzo Mourning
The eight-time NBA All-Star Vince Carter literally destroyed the man 40 pounds heavier than him, Alonzo Mourning. The dunk took place in 2005-06 regular season, but the intensity made the dunk to be most talked about for literally throughout the season. Many adjectives can be used to describe the gruesome dunk; quick, strong, assertive.
Chris Webber on Charles Barkley
Chris came down hard on Charles Barkley, the dunk was breathtaking. Webber came running down the court, put the ball around the waste and took off like a rocket slamming the ball right into the hoop, knocking Barkley down onto the court. The dunk was so smooth that Nike made an ad featuring Chris Webber.
