I am having a problem with my tub faucets. My hot water faucet stem is stripped and needs to be replaced. went to the local Home Depot and got the kit to replace both hot and cold. well as my pipes are old i guess, when took the seat out of the faucet, it turn out the part of the pipe that has the grooves to s***w the new seat in is decade and broke of partially. i was able to successfully do the cold water, but I cannot s***w in the seat on the hot water cause there are no grooves to catch it to hold it in place, when i put the faucet stem on for the hot water and turn on the water from the main water switch outside, it is as if the hot water is on and its pouring out of the spout. is there anything I can do to "mickey mouse" this as they would say, for a quick fix. My land lord is going to kill me.. I am scared they are going to have to tear out the tile to replace that pipe..HHEELLLPPPPP!!!!! I cannot turn on my main water valve outside cause my hot water is constantly running.. and I can't do anything ..the hot know is turned all the way off...

  1. If the pipe is damaged then it's very unlikely to be repairable so the only quick fix would be to block it off. Buy a pipe cutter and a push-fit end cap (the store will be able to tell you what size but take a rough measure anyway)

You will need access to the pipe to do this so it might be quicker to call an emergency plumber; it will only take 10 mins to repair or 45mins to replace the tap.

  2. well i really dont know much but buy watching people i can say u can cut the pipe back and use the little brass or silver things and plastic pieces and compress them and piece that mess together my husband just put a new falsest in he had to cut our pipes back bc we leave in a trailer we have old pipes and they are no good and had no cut off except the main so he had to get all these little stuff and new pipe and piece it back so as long as u didnt mess it up under the floor u can always piece it might not look as good or be professional but it works and doesn't leak anymore so with that said just be creative and start piecing so with that said u can compress it just becareful

  3. put the old stuff back in, play dumb and call your landlord and have him call plumber, sounds like valve body needs replacing, if not a good plumber can get it up and NOT running

  4. I don't know much about plumbing,  but maybe if you e-mail or call one of these they can advise you...

  5. If you can't get the faucet seat into the faucet body, then I'm sorry to say that you're most likely SOL.

It almost certainly means that it's time for a new new tub mixer.  You can try things like 5 minute epoxy, but I don't think it'll work as a permanent solution (the mixer is expanding & contracting - just a little bit - all of the time).

Now, if they're both brass, you might get it soldered in, but you'd have to be pretty good, and there's always a risk when you put a torch into a wall.

  6. you might be able to get a tap and tap the hole for a slightly (and I do mean slightly) bigger seat. The problem might be that your tap is so big that it makes the pipe too thin or wrecks it.

A tap is a tool for threading holes. http://www.tool-net.co.uk/data/tools/ta0...

Or maybe you could try to glue it in some how. Auto bodyfiller, crazy glue.

To extend it out again they have these plastic pipes at home depot. Ask the people there tommorow they should be able to help you out.
