I'm from the US and I'm planning on spending my junior year studying at NUI Galway -- I heard its a great time but is it expensive? I know tuition is about $23,000 for international students. But how about living cost? Apartment cost? Average cost for a pint? -- info about anything and everything about the school i'd appreciate!

  1. I'm an American here for my junior year, so I know what your going through! It is a bit expensive, but comparable to american universities for out-of state or private schools. Definitly worth it, even if you have to take out loans. Another plus is that you really don't have to buy books, most classes just have a recomended reading list and you can get all your info from the library when you need to do a paper or exam. The irish school system is much different than ours! It's also possible to live pretty cheaply in terms of food and all that, just like in America it all depends on what and where you shop.Your best bet for living would be to go outside the city center to one of the student accomodations.  Dunaras and Gort na Corribe are good, not to expensive and fairly nice. A 20, 25 min walk into school or town, but not bad. I would recomend going through a program, some American universities have them, and many will accept students from other schools. Academic Programs International is a good pick, you'd have housing all set, and a director to touch base with. Great program! As for the cost of a pint, 3 euro is generally the cheapest, Guinness is normally 3.60. Good luck! Galway is a wonderful city and NUIG is a great school, good choice!

  2. Apartments are about 65 euro a week if your sharing with other students, pints cost around 2.95 - 3.30,NUI is a great university,
