Narraway promises more
Gloucester's Luke Narraway has said that the club's fans can expect more attacking rugby of the sort they produced in the 24-14 pre-season win over Ospreys last weekend.
Gloucester are not one of the teams fancied to win the Premiership this season but they played extremely well against the current Magners League champions, which proves they are capable of beating anyone.
Narraway has been a flanker at the club since he broke into the team back in 2003. He has also said that this pre-season campaign has been one of the best that he has ever experienced during his time with the club.
Gloucester are working well in a number of areas that will give them an outside chance of being successful this season. However, it's important not to read too much in to the win over Ospreys as it was only a pre-season friendly.
Gloucester looking good
The best areas of the Gloucester team look to be the wide areas. Narraway got on the score sheet himself against Ospreys because the team were able to move the ball out wide very quickly in order to exploit a gap in the opposition defence.
The team also look as though they can control the middle area of the pitch very well. Henry Trinder had a very good game against Ospreys because the side were able to move the ball to and from their number eight very quickly.
There was also a great level of support from Gloucester fans for the game and the team seemed to enjoy and thrive on this support. Gloucester were playing with smiles on faces and it's important they can carry this same attitude forward.
Narraway said: "That is the way we want to play rugby, if you look through our squad we did not do ourselves proud last year, we have got some serious quality players in this team. We have always loved to play rugby, this is my ninth season here and that is not changing."
An urge for caution
There is a slight urge for caution for Gloucester because this was only a friendly match. There are always going to be examples all over pre-season friendlies of supposedly weaker sides beating better opponents. Pre-season is more about fitness as opposed to anything else.
Gloucester will find that the levels will be raised when they play their first Premiership game of the season. Of course it's important to win any match but a weaker team in a Premiership match will be more difficult to beat than Ospreys during a pre-season game.
Narraway added: "That is the mindset that we have and hopefully you have seen a few snippets of those tries that we can play like and hopefully we can turn up week in week out like that. Our mentality is to go out and win the game, it is not to concede less than the opponent it is to score more then them, defence is a big part of it but that is our mentality this season."
Betting advice
Gloucester will still not be up their win the favourites to win the Premiership this season. They still have a lot more convincing to do but they are a good attacking team and worth a punt if you fancy them to do well.
The better option with this team seems to be backing players. Narraway and Trinder are going to score a lot of points this season and Matt Cox also played very well and scored against Ospreys. Always keep an eye on the kicker as well who often ends up as the top points scorer at a club for a season.
