natural selection has resulted in exclusive male and parental care being much more frequent in species with external fertilization, where the male's genetic contribution to the offspring is more certain. explain how such behavior could evolve.

  1. There are several ways to ensure the continuation of your genes. These include having more offspring than others, and also protecting your own offspring against others. It need not be a deliberate act. It just happens that those that protect their offspring will have more offspring, and hence genetic material, which survives to adulthood, thereby passing on these traits. If this is done in a tribal setting, then the whole tribe benefits from such protective behaviour.
