  1. you probably need to clean up your registry, if you never have before. easy  and free too: dowload Eusing Free Registry Cleaner and run it. Don't worry, it saves everything you delete just in case, and you can reset it back if anything gets removed that shouldn't. It's a great tool. (I use it about once a month.)

  2. Computers usually get slower when there are more processes running at the background then what computer processor and ram can handle; go to start menu>RUN> type in "msconfig" and OK, here you can got the services and startup option and deselect all anything you don't need/use normally, press apply and restart computer, now you can run system defragment and disc cleanup, turn on a antivirus program only when u need to run a scan or while browsing web because antivirus always runs on the background and makes the computer very slow; If you're having slow issues with programs then there's no other solution but to upgrade hardware because not just memory, your whole system is lower then required for most of the programs today. Your system is very out of date so even if you do small hardware upgrades time to time, you still won't notice much improvement so it will be waste of your money, I'd recommend spending a bit on a new system, you can even get a reasonable used computer for less then $150 which will be far better.

  3. try disk defagmenter this should speed it up it does with mine

  4. To speed up your computer and free up space and memory for free:

Go to the Start Menu> Run

    Type in "appwiz.cpl"

    Uninstall whatever you don't need.

Next, go to Start> Run and type in "msconfig".

Go to the Startup Tab and uncheck everything you don't want to startup. If you want, you can uncheck everything, and your anti-virus will still restart itself when you log on.

Now go to My Computer> Hard Drive> Documents and Settings> [USER NAME]> Local Settings> and delete everything inside the Temp Folder. (This is a hidden folder so you will need to have "show hidden files and folders" checked in Folder Options) All the files in this folder are just temporary files that your Internet stored for certain websites.

Next, you should install CCleaner; it will get rid of alot of temporary files on your computer. It also has a registry repair system, which is easily the best free one available on the Internet:

    http://www.ccleaner.com/download

Another option is to try defragmenting your computer.

Go to the Start Menu and go to All Programs

Go to Accessories and System Tools.

Choose Disk Defragmenter and when it loads click defragment.

Next, go to Device Manger (Start> RightClick My Computer> Properties> Hardware Tab> Device Manager) and expand all listings. Now rightclick and update all drivers.

Another thing I would say is to compress your files if you already haven't.

Open My Computer and right click on your hard drive

Check the Compress Drive button and let it do its thing.

Finally, make sure your Hard Drive doesn't have any bad sectors. Go to My Computer> Right Click Hard Drive> Properties> Tools Tab> Check Now> Check both boxes and Start. It will ask you to reboot, so reboot. This will clear out any bad sectors on your Hard Drive.

These are short-term solutions however. The easiest way is to just upgrade the RAM on your system, but at least the ways above are free.

    Good Luck =]

  5. get auslogics boostspeed ... ! it works ..

  6. definitely need more memory but until then you can do go to start >Run> in open type MSCONFIG and click ok, you will get a system configuration utility go to the start up tab and remove everything except for the anti virus and click ok reboot your system and then run a scan disk and defrag from start>programs>accessories>systemtools

  7. install kaspersky antivirus .. its the best one with all the features ..

it takes less ram and gives more protection to the pc ..

also install cleaner to remove unwanted files from your pc ..

  8. 1)dont clutter up stuff as u hve small hard disk space!!

2)use an antivirus dat consumes least resources!!try ESET smart security or NOD32!!

3)don't install a lot of players n softwares dat u dont require at present!

    4)regularly defragmentate ur drives!!

5)run disk cleanup to get rid of temporary files!!

6)disable useless programs from the startup tray wid the help of "msconfig" utility!!

7)use "tuneup utilities" to get the optimum use of ur memory n other resources.download the trial version from the net!!just google it!!

8)increase virtual memory n cache size!!

9)permanently delete files coz the files in the recycle bin occupy space of ur primary partition!!

    plz do get tuneup utilities!!

  9. your computer will not be able to run fast with 128MB of ram. That is almost below minimum standards to run windows xp. If you go on Ebay or a local store you can pick up a 512 stick on ram which will make your computer run 2x as fast. a 512 stick of ram costs anywhere from 10 - 20 dollars

  10. Has it always been slow or is it getting slower lately?

One thing I always do to speed mine up when it's slowing down is a bit of a tidy up-i.e. clear out all the junk.

Do a disk clean up and disk defrag(accessories/system tools).

    Run a virus scan.

Also get rid of any adware(ad-aware is free and good at getting rid of junk. go to www.download.com).

Apart from adding more hardware those are the only ways I know of.

  11. buy more memory its so cheap and easy to install, I wouldn't waste my money on anything else

  12. you need more ram..it's cheap and easy to install.  I have gotten it from crucial.com   and have been very happy, no problems.  I would not use Norton only because it's a memory hog program and I don't think you need to add more programs to your computer without more memory anyway.
