Need Help With Fish Compatibility?

Hey everyone!

Well, I have a 60 gallon fish tank, I have two Pleco's in there and about a week and half ago I bought 10 Cory Panda's. When I was at the store, I saw Cichlids, I was wanting to buy some, I want 6 to 7 Lemon/Yellow Lab Cichlids.

(I'm not sure if Lemon and Yellow Lab Cichlids are the same, in the store it said “Yellow Lab” and when I looked at pictures I found that Lemon Cichlids are basically the same).

So I know Cichlids are aggressive. It won't be for now, I will wait until the Pleco's will outgrow the tank. (I'm keeping them for someone). So that would be in two-three years, but I rather do my research now.

So, yup my question is; Would I be able to keep them with the Cory Panda's?

  1. Cichlids are completely different than tropical fish because of their aggressiveness. They aren't usually able to co-exist but, (http://liveaquaria.com/general/fwcompati... says they can be in the same tank with caution.

My recommendation is you should add one or two at first, and if they are okay with the cories, add the rest. Be careful for the really aggressive ones.

  2. Lemon cichlids are Neolamprologus leleupi

    Yellow labs are Labidochromis caeruleus

They are two different species neither of which is really compatable with cory cats..

  3. unfortunatly labs tend to be kind of agressive...

if you realy want to go cichlids look into Peacocks! harder to find but not as territorial.

  4. I had a 30 gallon yellow lab cichlid tank and they ganged up on my cory and ate all of his fins off (poor guy), but I think that if you had that many of them, the cichlids would'nt be able to bully of them to the point of them dying or getting way to stressed out. I think you may be taking a risk, but you should be fine considering they are bottom dwellers and it is a large tank.
