  1. callaway x20's

  2. RAC OS2 by Taylormade.  They are game improving irons with a big sole making them easy to hit.  They are only 400 dollars. For the drive I would suggest the Nike Sumo Square or Sumo.  They are both 200 dollars and are very easy to hit.  The square is nice.  It hits really nice and has great distance and because of its square design, it delivers a high MOI to help you keep the club head straighter at impact.  The only bad thing about it is that it make this awful sound.  Don't get fitted for your driver.  If you are from 5'8" to 6'  then don't get your irons fitted.  also make sure you get the right lofts and stiffness on your drive and Irons.  If you are going to buy your clubs on ebay, get the serial number on the clubs from the seller and call up the company to verify that they are authentic.

  3. Check this site out. Pretty decent reviews of golf equipment.

Remember, you should still always try out the clubs at your local store before buying them.

  4. I bought clubs last year, I went to dicks sporting goods that had a launch monitor and got fitted.  they were going to charge like $30 for the fitting, but i told them i was going to come back and buy the clubs the next week.  I ended up buying a $500 set of Cobra FPs for $300 on ebay.

Even if you aren't cheap like me, i woudl recommend getting fitted and to let you know you can usually save a ton of money by buying on ebay.  just make sure that the clubs are authentic by emailing the seller.  Also watch out for the seller changing the shafts of the clubs.

I would definitely recommend the Cobra FP or S9s, both are great irons.  Other than that Callaway X 20's are really good, and the older Cleveland Launchers from 05 are also good club.

If you're looking to save some $, I might also recommend not buying the clubs that came out in the last two years.  The technology in the irons hasn't really changed that much since 2005.  Price is going to be a boat load more in the 07 / 08 models.

  5. The average golfer shoots 100, so you are a slight bit better than the average.  If you are really serious about your game and intend to improve on those 90's, no one can go wrong with Callaway Big Berthas (there are good Big Bertha clones available at less than half the cost) to improve from the 90's to the 80's.  After that, if you are consistantly in the low 80's you might think about trading them in for something more competitive.  Get fitted first and have a pro look at your swing.  Golfers in the 90's typically have some consistancy and fundamentals problems to be corrected.

  6. Get fitted at your local pro shop. It may cost you some cash, but it'll be worth it. (The alternative is to spend $600 only to find that the clubs don't really suit you). Find out which clubs best fit your game. Then do some comparison shopping. Check Ebay (I use http://www.stealgolf.com , which breaks down the Ebay listings by manufacturer and club type). Also check places like GolfSmith and Golf Galaxy.
