  1. Give this link a go

    http://video.about.com/desktopvideo/Impo...

  2. Get Windows Media Encoder http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows... .  This should be able to convert the video to a format Windows Media Maker can handle such as wmv or avi .  There are also other free video conversion programs such as t@b Video and Audio Converter http://www.thugsatbay.com/tab/?q=tab-vid... , AVS Video Converter http://avs4you.com/AVS-Video-Converter.a...

and Any Video Converter http://www.any-video-converter.com/produ... .  We use Quicktime Pro ($30) for most of our video converting needs.

A better option will be to upgrade your video editing program.  You can get Sony Vegas or Pinnacle Studio for less than $100.  Sony Vegas Pro is your best choice since it recognizes all of the currently used formats.  This will help you in the long run because you won't need to manually convert every single video you want to edit.  There are also other Free programs you might want to try such as Video Spin http://videospin.com/ (from Pinnacle) , t@b ZS4 Video Editor, or AVS Video Editor http://avs4you.com/AVS-Video-Editor.aspx

  3. open up "My Videos" and open up "movie maker" Grab the clip that you want. Drag it down to the taskbar. Hover over Movie maker for a sec. Then movie maker will pop up overtop of it. Then drop it and your video is there.
