I need to find a book on American history/politics which can be a autobiography, biography, novel or anything relating to the U.S. It can range as far back as the founding of America to current events in the 21st century. It can either be fictional or non-fictional as long as it relates somehow to U.S. history.

P.S. It also has to be over 300 pages.

  1. I have a rare book from 1898 and it is U.S. Agriculture related. Unfortunately it only has 152 pages. By the way it was signed by the Author. Would you be interested. Email me at "scalzo59@aim.com". Talk 2 ya later... maybe!

  2. For non-fiction, I recommend Pulitzer-winner David McCullough ('1776', 'John Adams', 'Truman', and 'Mornings on Horseback,' about the young Theodore Roosevelt), or Doris Kearns Goodwin's 'Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln'.

If you're looking for a novel, I suggest John Steinbeck' 'The Grapes of Wrath' (I read it for an AP History class years ago, and it's been one of my favourites ever since).

Other historical novels I recommend are Pete Hamill's 'Forever' (which borders on fantasy at times), and Caleb Carr's 'The Alienist' and 'Angel of Darkness'.  All three are set in New York City; they are very detailed and well-researched, and incorporate historical events and figures.  Carr's books take place at the turn of the 20th century, and 'Forever' follows the history of New York City (and America itself).  Hamill went on to write a memoir/history of New York, called 'Downtown: My Manhattan'.

All of these books should be available at Amazon, and they should all be well over 300 pages.

  3. Howard Zinn

A People's History of the United States: 1492-Present

  4. Bury my Heart at Wounded Knee by Dee Brown.
