I basically need help with positions and the different formations and the libero. What is the 4-2, 5-1, and the 6-2? I dont understand it from these websites, they confuse me. I know that there are 6 players and the names are Hitters, Setter, Back Row. But, I need to know the specific names. Like, I just found out that there is a middle hitter? I thought the hitters were on the left and right side? How are u supossed to subsitute a libero?

  1. when you substitute the libero you have to be behind the ten foot line, but it's a really fast substitution. it doesn't count from the 12 subs that you have.

  2. For all general information on Volleyball go here: http://www.tkohl.com/vbpage.htm

For the basic rules go here: http://alamo.nmsu.edu/~tays/vbrules.html

Developing playing systems for volleyball go here: http://www.tkohl.com/systems.htm

a 4-2 and a 5-1 are just how you have your players positioned on the court (example: 4-2 - four up front and two back).  However is this isn't enough check out http://volleyball.about.com/od/abouttheg...

Techincally all players can be hitters or setters.  That back row is simply the back row.  A middle hitter is just a person who is in the middle who is going to hit the ball if an opportunity arises.

A libero ( A defensive player who wears a different color jersey and is restricted from hand setting the ball in front of the attack line, serving the ball, and attacking the ball - see: http://volleyball.about.com/library/glos... can be rotated off the court then rotated back on - it depends on the rules you are playing under.

I hope this is helpful to you.

    Good Luck!!!

  3. Basically, 4-2 and 5-1 are formations for the six people on the court. In 4-2, you have 2 setters and 4 regular players.

In 5-1, you have 1 setter and 5 regular players.

A middle hitter is a middle blocker. Middle blocker is the person who blocks the spikes of the opponent team. If the ball's on the left hand side, then the person who's left front will, along with the middle blocker, jump up and block. If it's on the right, then the same procedure goes.

Back Row isn't a title of the players. Back row is the 3 or 2 people located in the back row..behind the 10 foot line.

The three..well four, positions are :

    Hitter

    Setter

    Middle Blocker/Hitter

    Libero

I'm not all to sure on a Libero since my team doesn't have one..but I do know they're the only members on the team with the opposite colors on their jersey from the regular players. I would think it's the same type of subsitution that a regular player experiences..but it's not like you can subsititue anyone in. It has to be another Libero.
