Need help with garden tractor?

Question

have a 14.5 horse lawnchief garden tractor that doesnt go into gear when clutch is released shifter handle feels like it goes into gear but wont move does not have hydostat trany what could be the problem and no dumb answers please im trying to help someone out thanks in advance

check the transmission belt, maybe its off the pulley

It sound like it could be a broken linkage. I would check and inspect that system
