Need help with my refrigerator?

My refrigerator(and freezer) is not as cold as it is supposed to be. This just started today. I have a feeling its something simple. Before I get a repair guy can anyone offer adcice as to what may be wrong?

  1. See if your compressor is running and go from there.Check for heavy frost and if present,empty it,unplug it and leave the doors open overnight for a hard defrost.Good luck.


  2. Check drain pan underneath.  Empty and rinse out.

    Check for collected dust in back and underneath.  Clean out.

    One time I had a bad switch on the light and the light was on all the time.  See if the bulb is warm to the touch when you first open the door.  I replaced my own switch.  

    Then call the repair man.

One possibility is that dust has collected on the cooling coils, which are located at the bottom or sometimes on the back.  There is usually a cover of some sort which can be removed, and simply vacuuming off the dust can help.  But if the refrigerator is old, it could be getting ready to give you a real problem.  Check the temperature controls (to make sure you didn't accidentally bump one while taking something out), and try comparing the setting with the reading you get on a regular thermometer.  The next step will probably have to be calling the repair guy.
