I am buying my first washer and dryer for my new home. I have no idea what to buy. I have a family of 3, one being a full grown man and the other a child thats 7 yrs. old. I would like a nice size washer and dryer able to fit a queen size comforter easily in both. I'm not sure WHAT SIZE CAPACITY or if I should get a FRONT LOADER, TOP LOADER and most of all what BRAND.I need it to be some what quiet as the laundry room is outside the den. Thanks for your help.

  1. I would go to Lowes to purchase my washer and dryer.  The price starts $298.00 for washer.  You need to get 4 cu. ft. that is about as big as top loaders come.  We got a Roper brand washer and dryer about 2 years ago and it continues to give good service.  The washer cost $350.00 and I don't remember the price of dryer.  Lowes delivered and sit up and hauled our old one away. I think the home delivery was part of sale they had going on.  See link below

  2. i always buy Kenmore largest capacity washer dryer combo's

sold by sears.   the washers i buy are all top loaded while all the dryers are front door loaded. think the set cost me about $800.00.  you may be able to buy cheaper Kenmore sets with a smaller capacities.

mine have usually lasted about 10 years on the average. we were a family of six and now a family of three.  i use it about for about  four loads a week on the average.

i use cold water only on all cycles to save on oil which is what my particular hot water system is fueled by. this heating oil actually costs more than gasoline now.  go figure.

electric hot water sucks because the recovery rate of the hot water is to slow.  on the other hand we have never run out of hot water while taking showers with the hot water heated with oil.

i think the quietest is ? Mercedes Benz?   i know that's a cars name but i believe they also now make appliances.

    very expensive, but quiet

    good luck to ya.

  3. I bought at Menards a triple loader, front loading washer. It takes only about 2 gallons per cycle to run and uses 1/2 the amount of soap about three years ago. I "think" it has already payed for itself in hot water usage and in soap.

I have owned several double loader machines, all new and they all ruined my blankets so I would recommend a triple load, front loading machine. My washer is being sold under several names and all are the same but mine is the "Whirlpool Duet"  seen it as Kenmore and I think Samsung too though. So name is not important. Look for price
