Negative testing and late period?

Question

i took a HPT the day before my period was due, it was a cheap $1 test from dollar store, which i know they work because i used it when i got pregnant w/ my daughter, but my period was 2 days late then, so im wondering if the test wasnt sensitive enough to pick up the hormone the day before my period was due because it was negative...its now 2 days late...could the test have been wrong?

maybe just go buy a different pregnancy test
