Question:

Neighbourhoods in Vancouver?

I'm thinking of moving to Vancouver & Im wondering where are the ideal neighbourhoods in the metro area for a single guy who enjoys the nightlife, lots of restaurants/grocery stores, very accessable to other areas, not too crime ridden, etc. How often does it snow there? Also, what are the regulations for an American trying to attain either dual-citizenship, a permanent residence thing, or a visa? Thanks.

  1. The centrally located neighbourhoods in Vancouver, that have all the amenities, also tend to be the most expensive. But you would probably want to focus your search in the ones closest to downtown, like the West End, Yaletown, Gastown, Kitsilano. Definitely avoid the East Hastings area, which is notoriously one of the worst neighbourhoods in Canada.

Snowfall, although rare, does happen on occasion. But temperatures rarely go below freezing. It does rain a lot though, so be prepared for that.

As a foreign citizen, you will require a work permit to work legally in Canada. This is not an easy process. Most people apply through the skilled worker visa program, which allows you to immigrate as a permanent resident assuming you meet the requirements (which are calculated through a points system). There is a waitlist and it can take up to several years for them to process your application. Visit this site for details: http://www.cic.gc.ca/English/immigrate/s...

Gas is at $1.45 to $1.50/litre. (About $5.50/gallon)
