Question:

Network connection error?

All right I hope this is the last time I have to ask this but... here goes.

My computer downstairs has a router that creates my wireless network and it works fine. My computer upstairs has a wireless adapter installed and it is working fine as well. On my computer upstairs I can clearly see my network as a list of available networks. I click on my network and hit connect. Every time I do this the system gets about two seconds into connecting and then restarts itself. When I log back in I get a window that comes up and informs me I had a critical error.

Is there ANY way to fix this problem? I've tried updating the hardware for my adapter but I'm almost positive that it is updated to the most recent version.

  1. Are you plugging to the plugs into the right plug holes.

Are you using the right chorts such as a CAT5 not a crossover.

The two operating systems do they differ from each other.

Could you run a spyware program on the computer to remove spyware.

Have you got a bluescreen virus on one of the computers.

    >>Start with the simplest problem and work your way up. <<

What you can do is create a disk on one computer and then transfer the setting accross to other computer.

    The help files help.

Sounds like you are mixing up the network network with the internet sharing.

You shouldn't have to connect it automatically will do that for you.

Connect one of the computers to the internet.

    Update the virus protection.

    Scan computer 1.

    Repeat steps for computer 2.

Create a network setup disk on one computer. {This can be done in help files it will show you how to do it. Depending on what operating systems you have. **If the operating systems are different it will be more difficult.**

Take that disk and use it on the other computer. Run it.

    Then hook up the computers.

Then go to my computer then my network places.

You should be able to see two computers.

Continue to trouble shoot and use the help file and google if not.

**I had it but it's gone now** Another tip...

Oh well...try ah here it is...no gone again.

    Try those steps.

****Make sure the ports on the router are functing correctly****

  2. Sounds like a Blue Screen of Death (BSoD).  First step is to see the error.  You cant because your machine just restarts.  Lets fix this:

    1. Right click on my computer and go to properties

    2. Go to the advanced tab

    3. Click the startup and recovery button

    4. Uncheck "automatically restart"

    5. Hit ok

Now the next time it happens you will get a blue screen complete with error number and perhaps device.  Let us know what that is.
