The Bayern Munich goalkeeper has expressed his delight on the DFB-Pokal win over FC Augsburg on Tuesday
The Bavarian giants won the game 2-0 after strikes from Mario Gomez and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Xherdan-Shaqiri-c37074 to end the first-half of the season on a winning note. The Reds have now lost only two times in the first phase of the campaign and are huge
favourites to win the Bundesliga at the end of the season.
The former FC Schalke shot stopper insisted that the home side played well and made things very difficult for Bayern. He admitted that there were times in the game when Augsburg played better than Die Roten, but it was his side’s
patience which led to the victory in the end.
Neuer insisted that Franck Ribery’s red card in the second-half was another obstacle for the away team and suggested that it could have been avoided. The player is although happy that Bayern are through and is looking forward to
the winter break.
“Augsburg did well, like they did in the Bundesliga. We were down to ten in the second half, and that made it tough for us. It's good we had the lead. A cup battle is always going to be scrappy, but it's finished 2-0, and we're
through,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
On the other hand, Xherdan Shaqiri also expressed his satisfaction on the win and was delighted on contributing to the victory. The winger stressed that it was a well fought win and is certain that his side can go all the way in
the domestic cup this time around.
“We've seen a hard-fought match. Augsburg began well, and we weren't determined enough with our chances. We defended well after the red card and ultimately scored the second,” the Swiss international concluded.
Bayern Munich have started the season brilliantly and at the end of the first-half of the season, the side looks to be the prime contender for the Bundesliga title. Borussia Dortmund, on the other hand, have had an unusual start
to the campaign and are currently sitting in third place behind the likes of Bayern and Bayer Leverkusen.
