New Drive Missing Hive

I recently installed a Pioneed dual layer DVD writer/reader replaciing a single layer Philips. The instructions mention being careful to connect pin 1 of the IDE connector must be connected to pin 1 of the cable. I have done this. Computer will not boot and says"Hive 5 not found: parallel ATA, PATA1 (PRI IDE slave)". How do I setup this drive?
