New Hamster?

Question

I might be getting a new hamster. I wanted to know:

1. Can you give hamsters baths? How often?

2. How can you tell if it is a male or female?

I am getting a regular hamster. Not dwarf.

and 3. How often do you clean their cage?

No you cannot bathe them it could make them sick.

And you clean their cage once a week twice if it gets really dirty.

1. You can give them baths but unless they have a flea problem you shouldn't.  They sell this powder you put in a ceramic container called a hamster bath and the hamster will bathe himself in the powder to fight off mites and fleas.

2. Usually when you buy them they are separated according to male or female.  If they are not separated, you are probably at a small petstore in which the clerk would likely know how to tell the difference.

3.  Once a week is usually good, but depending on the size of the cage and whether or not it has good circulation you may need to more often or your hamster will smell like pee, and that is no fun.

u clean once a week no they dont need baths an i dont know for sure how to tell an if its preg take all the hamster even the father out shell eat them otherwise

1. No, please don't ever bathe a hamster in water! It makes them very sick. Hamsters do appreciate rolling in a pan of Chinchilla dust once a week though. It s natural and safe for hamsters.

clean the cage once or twice a wk no u can bathe them so keep em clea... do ur reasearch on thing they can and cannot eat as well cuz u dont seem to know much about hamsters

1. Getting a yhamster completly wet can kill it. If you want it to stay clean, get Chicilla Sand and put some in one corner of the cage.

2. Look at their underside near the tail. There should be two holes. If they are next to eachother it's female; if thet are a few centimeters apart it's male. After 3-4 months, a female will also get six t***s.

3. Change the cedar once a week or it will start to stink. Completly wask the cage in a mild detergent, like Dawn, once a month.
