Question:

New Open holed flute! Help!?

Hello!

So I have been playing flute for more than 6 years and I am in the top of the most advanced band at my school, and I just got my first open holed flute. Nothing has changed about the set up of the flute, but as I tried to play my scales, the fingering for G just played F#.

My High G works, but my low G and middle G are playing F#.

Is there something I'm missing?

Please help me out!

Thanks!

  1. I'm not sure what's wrong, your flute might be slightly damaged. If so, you should take it into a music shop, there are loads of specialised flute and woodwind shops and they will fix it in about 5 mins really cheap.

  2. Hi There.

You tell us that you just got your flute... so it is brand new.   It sounds to me like it needs to be adjusted very slightly.    Take it back in to the shop from where you bought it immediately.    Since it is new and under warranty,  they will be glad to make any adjustments the flute will need.... or will be obligated to exchange the flute for another one.

Your experience of playing 6 years tells me that you know how to play the flute...   so it's not something you are doing wrong.   Often times when in transit,  new flutes go out of adjustment and need to be tweeked slightly before they are sold.  Perhaps they did not detect the problem when the flute came in.

Don't be worried...   it can be adjusted in just a few minutes.

    Thanks for reading.  :))
