New York City hotspots? ?

My mom and I hot spots to NYC for about a week and I was wondering what hotel we should stay at? Hopefully a place not too pricey, but still very nice and close to everything (what am i saying if its NYC its going to cost a lot) :)

Also what Broadway show should we see?
