New diesel cars and biodiesel?

How do you think the new diesels that are supposed to run on this new ultra-low sulfer diesel fuel will do with biodiesel?

will it work at all? what about conversions? or the kind you filter and alter yourself?

  1. Newer diesels have computers and sensors that may not be happy with home-brew biodiesel. Or so I've heard. If you want to use biodiesel, buy an older diesel.

I've been considering making and using it in my 1986 Chevy CUCV (Blazer) with a 6.2L diesel. I've heard these are good candidates for home-brew, and they go for relatively cheap with low miles on gov auction sites. Take this one for example: only 252 miles on a 22-year old truck.

I've also heard diesel Rabbits and Benz's are good candidates.

Anyway...You could maybe check the car's owner's manual.

  2. The biodiesel will work because it is low sulphur. To ensure it to run right you should make sure the engine has a diesel heater installedIn the supplyline to the engine. It uses the same diesle filters. No other conversions will be needed

  3. bad idea.  common rail diesel systems are very precise.  the clearances are tight and its all electronically controlled.  i've seen many diesels that the owner has tried to run on bio-diesel that have stuffed up the whole fuel system and been refused warranty-  very expensive.

its only safe on the old smelly rattly diesels-  they'll run on just about anything.
