So i got a lower back tattoo on Saturday and the past two days its peeled nearly the entire way. When I get out of the shower it is usually peeling alot and when i rub my lotion on it just peels off. There is now nothing left to peel but it still feels itchy, is this normal and do i keep putting lotion on it? Also I leave for a beach trip tonite is it safe to put Aveeno SPF 70 for sensitive skin, its oil free and fragrance free?

  1. Its very normal for a tattoo to be a little itchy during the healing process, both while its peeing and when its done peeling.  You should still put lotion on your tattoo and once the tattoo is done peeling its closer to being very healed, so it is safe to put sunscreen on it however do make sure to reapply often to avoid extra or unnecessary irritation to the healing area.  And extra points for using oil and fragrance free sunscreen :-)

But do note that you are not suggested to soak a tattoo until its about 2-3 weeks old (longer if the tattoo is very large)

  2. Usually your not supposed to get tattoos wet right away, and if you just got it done your should be putting Tattoo lotion or A&D ointment on it only. If you shower in hot water it might be causing the peeling, or if you're itching at it that's even worse. Tattoos usually peel on their own naturally, but if you itch or expose it to sun right away it will fade alot. If your going in the sun, keep it covered as much as you can, and if not make sure to constantly apply sunblock to it. Good luck

  3. Bad timing for a beach trip.  Your tattoo shouldn't be submerged in water for 2 full weeks and shouldn't be exposed to the sun for a prolonged amount of time for 30 days.  You should only be using Lubriderm, Curel or anything your tattoo artist would suggest, I guarantee Aveeno with spf is not a recommendation.

You're tattoo will look fine, but it will not be totally 100% healed for 4 weeks.  So keep applying lotion, when it feels itchy.

  4. First off you should only be using the lotion at the shop or lubriderm. Put it on at least 4 times a day, if you itch it your tattoo is going to fade...

  5. your really not supposed to have a new tattoo exposed to the sun at all. And keep applying your lotion til its no longer itchy.
