Newcastle looking to bring in Ewerthon
It is no secret that Newcastle United are currently facing some serious shortages in their offensive department.
The team allowed Andy Carroll to part ways with the club on 31 January, 2011 and they now suffer a serious setback in the form of an injury to Shola Ameobi, who might be sidelined for a number of months to repair his fractured cheekbone.
Along with the injury to Ameobi, it has also been reported that Leon Best has picked up a hamstring injury and might be out for a week or two.
As a result, the team is looking to bring in a player almost immediately, however, with the transfer windows now being closed, their options seems to be limited. Newcastle can only sign a player as part of an emergency loan, or bring in a free transfer.
Keeping that in mind, the team has gone on to target twenty-nine year old, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ewerthon-c13048 Henrique de Souza.
The player managed to part ways with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Palmeiras-c40165 in January and is now a free transfer. Due to this status of the player, he has managed to jump the charts on Newcastle’s watch list and is now being reputed as the number one choice to come into the side.
The player’s agent, Barry McIntosh, has, however, admitted that a number of teams are currently looking to land the player, including Newcastle. He is reported to have told Skysports:
“A number of clubs like Ewerthon, he is a free agent and is looking to seal his next move.
I am not going to go into details about who we are talking with, but if you’re asking me about whether he would move to Newcastle? Then yes, obviously they are a caliber of club he would very much consider playing for”.
Ewerthon is a rather versatile forward, not only can he play as a lone striker, but he can also play on either wing if required to do so.
However, what really makes him a prime candidate is the fact that he has tremendous experience under his belt. In the past the forward has managed to play for, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Corinthians-c38855, Rio Bracno, Borussia Dortmund, Zaragoza, Stuttgart, Espanyol and Palmerias.
With the player possessing more than enough experience to come into the Newcastle side and go at it from day one, many are questioning as to why he hasn’t already been signed by Alan Pardew.
One reason may be, if Ewerthon comes into the side, he could help not only in the goal scoring department at the club, but he could also work as a mentor to Best and teach him the in's and out's of playing at the highest of levels.
All in all, a move for the Brazilian veteran could prove to be just what Newcastle need, to end the season on a high note in the Premier League.
