Question is, for small child/baby - close up, what is the lens of choice by many? I found a 50mm/1:1.4 fixed works well, what is your suggestions.

Also, for headshots i've heard 100mm range (i have a 105 macro) , does anyone have any other suggestions.

Also, does anyone have any comments on wether a adjustable zoom, like a 55-135(whatever the size is) or something makes it easier if your adjusting your distance alot? I have a 55-200 1:4-5.6 , cheapy lense it was only 230.00 , and wondering whats the 'next step up' to have this adjustability, but will also produce the best results.

  1. Here's a detail article about suggested Nikon portrait lenses.

And a review of your existing 55-200mm.

If you have a 55-200mm, then getting a 55-135mm is a step backwards.  For a better range, I use an 18-200mm VR and find it to be an ideal lens for many situations.
