  1. These two seem closely comparable.  I have not used either one, but let's review the side-by-side charts.  Nikon seems to have a bit of an edge in almost everything.  If the chart is accurate, though, Fuji does not offer user control like the Nikon does.  It says that there is no aperture priority and no shutter priority on the Fuji.  This would make me favor the Nikon all by itself.

The Fuji has a little more zoom range going out to 140mm (vs. 123mm for the Nikon), but otherwise, the Nikon has manual focus (probably by menu control), closer macro range, faster lens (which should more than make up for Fuji's claim of one half stop faster ISO), both faster and slower shutter speeds available, much more powerful flash, plus the aperture and shutter priority modes.  The Fuji is slightly smaller and might fit into a pocket better.

Click on "Read owner opinions" on the linked page and it seems like the Nikon owners like their cameras a bit better.  In fact, the image quality ratings are so much better that I'm a little surprised.  (Okay, these are not professional reviewers...)  Fuji large sensor P&S images are pretty good, but so are the Nikon's.

I think I'd buy the Nikon.  Especially since it seems to be about $50 cheaper.

I own the ancestor to the P5100 - the 5400 - and it's a great camera.  At one time, it was my dream camera and I thought I'd never own a better digital camera.
