Question:

No Clear Coat On Auto Paint!?

Hi There,

I need someone with extensive auto paint body shop experience to answer this question. There is a small section on my vehicle that does not have clear coat over the paint, it's in the back of my tailgate kind of hidden by a metal piece that goes across horizontally. The metal that does not have any clear coat on it is kind of tucked behind this piece. I just want to know if i should address this with my dealership or should i ignore this issue. I'm concerned over time the paint may begin chipping or in extreme weather, may start coming off. I need an experts opinion.

Thank You For your Help,

D.S.

  1. OMG!!!!!!!  Go to your dealership immediatly!!!  Get this done! I love my car and if I was to find out that it was missing a clear coat I would flip!!!  Not only will it degrade your appreance but your paint will start to fade, chip, crack off and start to rust by not having a good paint seal!!!!!!

  2. if its a new car, yes take it back to the dealer and get it fixed, if its and old car 98 and below id try to wax it every now and then, waxing will make it appear as if it has a thick clear coat the only catch is that u have to do it every month to two months,if its a small spot it shouldnt be such a hassle
