Question:

No Fashion Knowledge - Please Help!?

Hi, Well my issue is that I never seemed to develop a sense of style. I don't know how everyone else seems to know what to wear and what colours go with each other.

I want a wardrobe of clothes that I can mix and match. What essentials do I need? What colour combinations go well. I don't want to look too old in boring clothes but I don't want to make a fool of myself either. It seems like a minefield!!

Can you suggest any inspirations from the celebrity world?

I am 22, 5'2, about a size 12 and work in an office.

Thank you for any advice you have for me.

  1. in shops, or on the internet,

on the dolls or pictures of an outfit you like, then buy the stuff

in on the doll or in the picture or similar items, once you have

lots of items you will automatically start going 'well if i get that

it will go with that, that, and that!'

    lol.

    good luck

  2. Well to play it same in an office, I normally wear black trousers, and then change the colour of my jumper or top.  Like you could have black trousers, a red long jumper and put a black waist grabber belt with it.  I would steer clear of combining funny colours if you're not sure, and also funny outfits if you're not sure.  Maybe grab yourself a fashion magazine and have a look at what's in it.  Half of it is normally way too daring for me, but i've read that the key colours for this autumn/winter are greens, blues, greys.  Hope this helps xx

  3. Work out what your colouring is - you might suit blues and green, or reds and browns, usually you would be able to tell what you suit from your eye and skin colour.

Get some plain tops in different styles and colours that you can wear with anything! Then also get some nice patterned tops, in a more sophisticated style.

Keep skirts or trousers plain, dark colours, they'll be suitable for the office and can't possibly look bad with any of your tops.

Get a couple of pairs of shoes. Make sure they're comfy, but get some plain black ones, and perhaps also some more colourful ones to go with the colours of tops you own.

I hope this helps, this is the kind of thing I go for when I'm dressing for work anyway, and it seems to work, as a neutral, smart-casual look. Good luck! xx

  4. I suggest you start watching TLC's What Not to Wear.  They give fashion advice for women, and sometimes men.  That being said...

I suggest you buy neutral colored pieces and some bold colored pieces.  If you have high contrast features (light skin, dark hair, or vice versa), the best neutrals for you are white and black.  If you have low contrast features (dark skin, dark hair), greys and light tans are excellent neutrals.  Keep in mind you can wear whatever neutrals you want (black, white, grey, brown, tan, green-it really does go with anything-, navy), just put up your hand next to the clothes and see if the color looks good against your skin. If you have light skin, pastel colors look wonderfully creamy against your features.  If you have dark skin, bolder colors add a great pizazz.  Again, just put up your hand next to the clothes and see if the color looks good against your skin.  It is easier to mix and match outfits if you have many neutral pieces.  For example, if you have a black blazer and a black skirt (neutrals), you can wear them together or separately with other clothes.

Above all, have fun looking for clothes.  Good luck!

  7. Well, I think that suits are a good idea. White skirt and jacket, with a red undershirt, and black or red heals. Or black skirt and jacket with the red heals. Hair up. Black and white suits with scarves, worn like a tie.

Ummmmm.... That's all I've got. Hope it helped.
