No control over magnavox tv

Question

Can't turn tv on or off except by unplugging it. Then we have no control - cannot change channel or volume and menu button doesn't work. When on it seems like a commercial:
"Why your next tv should be this one" comes on the screen and then goes through a description of every menu feature. Do not have original remote control.
