Question:

No recycling in my neighborhood?

There is no recycling pick-up service in my neighborhood. Does anyone know how to find plastics and aluminum recycling places? Can I pay to have someone pick up my recycling every week? It really bothers me to continue to throw things away.

I live in a suburb of Pittsburgh, PA if anyone has advice specific to my area.

  1. That bad :(

You should write to your local council.

In the mean time, why not think about reducing your waste by reusing containers while buying food...drink etc....

Take containers to the store rather than buying disposable plastic stuff!!!!

Unfortunately i live in Wales, UK so i don't know much about Pittsburgh!

  2. good for you.....you care...

    here is a great site..

  3. as far as plastic goes i don't know of anyone who will pick it up at your house. i would call the city council & ask them where the nearest recycling bin or drop off point would be to your home, then drop it off yourself. as far as aluminum goes. aluminum is worth $. if you place an ad in your local paper or swap sheet  i'm sure someone would contact you & they might even pick it up for free. here in Iowa aluminum is worth 50 cents per pound. my question would be... why pay someone twice? you pay them to haul it away, & they get paid again at the scrap yard or recycling center.

ps. recycling centers & scrap yards are always listed in the local phone book

  4. This is not an answer, but a "I feel your pain" response! I just moved to Labrador city and there is no recycling service here. I have been really annoying by talking to anyone in town about the situation. Once I feel I have support I will talk to the town council. If more people are aware, then changes will start to happen. Good luck to you!

  5. Speak with your local council, and your neighbours and organise something.

I'm in Melbourne, Australia and we have a great pick-up service. Garbage and recycles, (bottles, cans, paper, plastic) picked up weekly, and green waste fortnightly.

  6. google yourself some recycling plants and facilities! You should be able to at least recycle cans and bottles.

However, you should try to find a way to re-use your plastics. If you get water in plastic bottles, refill the bottles two or three times before you throw them away.
