Noisy bathroom exhaust fan?

I have a 2 story house. Whenever we turn on the exhaust fan in the 1st floor bathroom, we hear noisy hum in the room above the bathroom. Is there a way to reduce/eliminate this noise?

You can buy a replacement fan. I've seen them at electrical supply stores. The prices ranged from $40 to $150 from what I can remember. They even listed the decibel levels. Lower is quieter of course.

If you don't want to spend money, try to clean the dust and grit off of the fan you have. If you plan to touch the wires, turn off the circuit first. You can use an air blaster (often used to clean computer keyboards and motherboards), or suck out the dust with a vacuum.

Lubricating will help short term. Most Probably the bearing has worn and is cheeper to replace them. You can get them from around $20 and up . Not hard to install if it has a plug on the end. Other wise an electrician has to connect.

Try lubricating the motor spindle with a spray lubricant, do this while the fan is running. If that doesnt work  tighten all the screws and bolts you can find in the squirell cage itself and on the fan brace. Hope this helps.
