Question:

Non-profit Organization?

Where can I find information about how to start a non-profit organization. I have a sister that is interested in starting a business for men to act as a role model for teens and younger youth today.

She also mentioned having activities and workshops setup for the teens/youth that the men can help them achieve new things. (examples: sports, camping, basic fundamentals of how to uphold your status as a young man in society today)

I told her to start small like at church or something (this way she can get a good foundation of volunteers with men within the church) and allow it to get bigger and bigger from there.

Are there any sites that you can refer me to for funding or just basic information?

  1. This is a good question!  I'm a co-founder for a non profit organization called softin (http://www.seafaringopportunities.org) it's a 501 c3.

The best choice we did that really helped us out was go to the Foundation group.  they helped us set up our articles of incorporation, get our state approval as well as all dealings with the IRS and obtained our 501 c3 status.  They will help you get everything you need to be declaired a 501c3.  before or after that part, you need to work on funding recourses.

I'm going to give you the email address to our project coordinater who can share our funding recourses with you.

    Good luck!
