Question:

Northern California Club Volleyball Question?

Ok so I didn't make my Freshman volleyball team this year. I am doing some entry level stuff in Mountain View right now but I definitely want more of a challenge and something that is a bit more time consuming. I heard that club volleyball plays during the off season and is a big time commitment; it is also very competitive. Does anyone know of somewhat less competitive, yet still very challenging area club teams that are located in the San Francisco, California area? ie: Menlo Park, Palo Alto, San Jose, Sunnyvale, Mountain View, Redwood city.

  1. I play for the Eclipse Club, and we play in Sunnyvale. I was on the 14's team last year and we came is 2nd place out of 150 for the whole season. Tryouts are in November. You can email me if you want more information. Sl_lmmer@yahoo.com

  2. i would recommend going to ncva.com. the oficial website for northern california volleyball club teams. There are power league and area league. If you do not want a whole lot of commitment i would recommend looking for an area league because you only travel within 100 miles at the most. If you are really looking to imporve and really enjoy the sport i would recommend trying out for a power league team. ask your coach about any clubs in the area. i know there are a lot around palo alto and i think there is one in mountain view. good luck!

  3. The region for USAV for Northern California has a web site at ncva.com.  You can contact them at vball@ncva.com

If you were in the Houston area, you would be contacting me. You are correct.  Some clubs have very competitive and are very time consuming.  I work for a club that practices 3 times a week and will travel around the country.  They will play at least 10 weekends on top of their practice schedule.  There are other clubs that will play only 8 one day tournaments and practice one time a week.
