Norton is good or bad?

Question

I have norton right now. I have a lot of virus. Should i get a different anti-virus? and if i do whihc ones? i need a few things. to protect against virus and stuff. and if i get a new anti-virus, should i dlete norton like everything out of it? becaause right now i have full of virus and i can;t delte them

Norton slows down your computer and practically tries to overtake it.  In other words, Norton in itself is a virus.  You need to reinstall windows on your computer (have the disc still that came with the computer?).  You can look up directions on how to do that on the internet.  

Good programs you can use are (www.download.com) SpyBot, and Adaware.  Run these weekly.  I've also used Avast antivirus (free to try) which is free of all spyware.  Good luck and get that norton off your computer.

norton is good. but, it is a large file. your pc must have optimum speed

try kaspersky..its the best antivirus available..

it takes less ram and gives more protection to the system than any other antivirus..and no need to install any other software for spywares and all..it has all the features..

and you need to uninstall all norton products installed in your system..

go to add/remove programs and remove all norton softwares installed..

I hated Norton. It was on my computer when I bought it, and I couldn't get it off, and they dont want to talk on the phome with you unless you pay them $80.00 get rid of it --if u can. Get a free on on the net.

Norton use to be good until Symantec took it over a few years back ever since then Norton has gone down hill it doesn't detect  malicious programs the way it use too and it's a system resource hog, and if you try to uninstall it,it will leave behind over 300 files so you will need a special removal tool to help remove all the files.

Norton used to be considered quite good, but that was back in the days when there weren't too many antivirus programs out there.  I don't consider Norton to be very good because:

1. Compared to comparable programs from Grisoft (AVG) and Avast, some recent tests by computer magazines such as Maximum PC have shown that even updated to the latest signature packs, it managed to miss some threats that others found consistently.   Both Avast and AVG can be fooled too, but they managed to catch all the threats that Norton did and a few others.  This doesn't count malware, which is often a matter of interpretation of whether a particular program is bad or not.  Considering that Norton doesn't offer a free edition and the pay version is more expensive than the others, I would expect it to be better at catching threats when updated to the latest signature files.   Sadly, it isn't.

2. I was once a Norton user that updated to the latest version every year.  Each year's version took up more system resources than the previous year's.   I don't know about AVAST, but AVG doesn't take up as much CPU time (based on the task manager) as Norton does.   Since antivirus programs aren't the only thing I run on my machine, this is a bad thing in my view.   Perhaps they've gotten better, as I haven't used Norton since 2005, but I kind of doubt it.

3. Norton AV is extremely hard to remove.  Not quite as hard to remove as malwares, but close.   The earlier versions from 2001 and earlier weren't too bad, but later versions had pretty horrible uninstallers that didn't restore everything on the system.  After uninstalling the 2005 edition, my system  still complained about missing Norton files on every boot.   I had to manually hunt through the registry to find all references to Norton and Symantec to fix that.   I expect that sort of rubbish from a virus, but not an anti-virus program.

Get the latest version of AVG (AVG8) and you'll be better protected and much happier.   If you feel better paying for it, Grisoft also has a boxed version of AVG which comes with better malware handling and tech support.

4. They're expensive.   For what they charge, they SHOULD be the best, but they're not.

The problem with Norton is twofold. 1. It is the mostly widely used antivirus so when those nasty little hackers who dream up these

viruses go to make one they make it specifically to beat the Norton anti virus and 2. it is absolute pig for space on your computer. If your computer is that badly infected take it to a tech shop and have it cleaned professionally. Then have them install a antivirus that they

recommend Not Norton or Mcafee.There is one that is really good is Kapersky. My friend has and it was really cheap and didn't take up much space and got really good reviews on it in consumer guides. Try that one.

quite poor.  AVG and Avast r free and far far better. Yes delete it when u install a different.
