My husband and I are planning our first cruise on the Norwegian Magesty in February. I was just wondering what type of attire is common for the various events. I know shorts and T's and bathing suits but as far as dinners are they dressy dressy as in wedding reception or dressy as in Church attire.

  1. its really casual, maybe cacky pants and a polo shirt, or a nice t shirt

  2. both.....as long as you feel nice....I actually wore black slack capris...high strappy black heels and a dressy black top with nice accessories....the variety was so wide!!!! I would just make sure you felt comfortable....I have been on a cruise and have seen minimal tuxes...just look nice and have a great time

  3. they have specifics in your cruise booklet they send to you OR at NCL.com

usually slacks and a nice blouse and for your hubby a jacket and slacks.  or if you want a really formal dinner / night  tux for man and  dressy (like wedding) for woman.  have a good time.

  4. Well you can go in anything that is dressy...anything but jeans and a t-shirt are allowed in the dinning room. I usually go Church attire!!!

  5. I have been on many cruises with Norwegian and here's my experience.

The dress on ship is casual all day until 6:00PM. So take swim wear, shorts, sandals, beach shoes, your snorkel equipment if you have it, sun glasses and sun screen, lotions, a cap or big hat for the sun, a book if you are a reader, your music player, sneakers and clothes to workout in if you like to use the gym, your camera, and other personal toiletries.

After 6:00 PM they request that you wear "sports casual" attire. That's attire that you would expect a person to wear in a business office, shirt with a collar, slacks, skirt, blouse, etc. You can still wear shorts and swim wear in the pools and spas but not in public areas like dining rooms and restaurants, show rooms, bars, casino, etc.

Most 7-day cruises have two formal nights when you can wear your best stuff and get pictures taken, and maybe meet the ship’s Captain. The formal nights are REQUESTED not required attire. But most people do dress up in a tux for men and a long dress (any color) for women. Some men just wear a suit and tie and some women wear a nice dress but not a gown. You will not be denied access to the dining room or anything else if you choose not to dress up. (we usually take off the formal stuff after dinner and pictures anyway).

Norwegian has the "freestyle" cruising which basically means that you are not assigned a time and table for dinner; you just go when you want or can go to the alternative restaurants.  But bear in mind that the "alternative" restaurants will cost a gratuity or service fee of between $5 and $20 per person each time you go.  The goal on NCL is for you to not have to dress up so you will feel comfortable if you do not.

  6. Norweigan is the best one for the most relaxed dress code.  The dress code is basically no swim suits in the dining rooms.  About anything else goes.  Most people will go in jeans.  A hawaiian shirt for a man is acceptable even on a formal night.  the formal nights you will see some people in a tux and evening gown/cocktail dress.  some will come in hawaiian shirts.  everything in between.  there is no one to force dress codes / dinner times / all the traditional rules / it's all about freestyle cruising.  it's your vacation enjoy.

  7. Norwegian has a very casual dress code ...

How should I dress for dinner?

Freestyle Cruising gives you the freedom to dress as you please – morning, noon and night.

Casual attire is perfect for all restaurants during the day -- Khakis, skirts, jeans, casual tops, shorts or whatever. Swimwear with a cover-up is fine at the buffet and outdoor restaurant.

For dinner, collared shirts and pants or nice jeans work for guys. Slacks or jeans, dresses, skirts and tops are perfect for women. But if you want to dress up and add a little glamour when you dine out, that’s OK too – we’ve reserved one restaurant each night just for that.

For kids 12 and under, nice shorts are appropriate in all restaurants at all times.
