  1. Hi Daniel,

I'm the Executive Director here at Nossi. Your question is often asked and I'm more than happy to help you understand some reasons why we ask to see your previous artwork. Our graphic art program (Associate or Bachelor degree programs) involve graphic design, computer graphics and traditional drawing and mediums techniques. Traditional art is studied early in order to build a strong foundation for you to learn design that will hold strong not just now, but through out many years to come. We are not just training you for a job, we are providing you an education for a long and successful career in design. You can ask any art director and they will tell you the same. That is, strong fundamental drawing skills is essential for long term success. Now, we understand that depending on each student's background, all of you will be on various levels. Some students have had many high school art classes, others may have had none but are naturally talented. This gets back to your question ( and sorry for the long response), we want to see what level you are at now. If you have a natural talent, we will be able to tell. We have an obligation to you as the student and to our instructors to make sure that everyone sitting in our classroom has the natural raw creative and artistic talent to become a designer. We will give you our proffesional and honest opinion of where you stand compared to others that will be in your class. We will tell you what to expect, what you already may know or have to learn early on. The one thing we promise, is to listen to you, answer all your questions and help you see your potential. It's not so important how good you may be now, it's important that we help you see your potential in school and upon graduation. Try to show us a variety of what you have done in the past. 8-10 pieces is fine. Variety can be different mediums or even subject matter. I'm sure you are your worst critic, most artists are. Don't be afraid to show us your stuff. More than likely, Mrs. Nossi herself will review your artwork. She is great and you will enjoy meeting her. Hope to see you soon because fall classes are starting. Your welcome to email me at cyrus@nossi.com with further questions. Take care.
