  1. If you buy some colorful pens and write down certain key points in certain colors, you can help seperate out with the colors which are more important. :) also, i don't know how much you'll actually be taking notes in high school, i didn't. and i survived. :) also maybe you and a friend could photocopy each other's notes so maybe they wrote things you didn't write, vice versa. :) Have fun!

  2. My father used to say, write down anything the teacher writes on the board, since those are the points they want you to focus on. It took awhile to figure out how to take proper notes in school, but after I got it down, I took the technique all the way through college.

    I usually write a headline, and then key points underneath with bullets, this keeps the notes neat. For math, I used to write the problems as they were written on the board and add notes on the side that I didn't think I would remember when I got home.

    A really simple example would be showing you the key points of this advise, I would have taking notes that looked like this

    How To Take Notes

    -Write what the teacher writes on the board

    -Use bullets to keep the sentences neat.

    How To Take Notes For Math

    -Copy the problem from the board

    -Use margins for extra notes on how to solve the problem

    With math it would look something like this(simple example)

    2x+4=16

    2x+4 =16

    ___-4_-4__

    *Subtract the 4 from *each* side

    2x=12

    2x/2 = 12/2

    *Divide both sides by 2 to get x

    x=6

    if you are lucky you will get a really good teacher that will write all there notes in a clear format on the board. I had a teacher in the 9th grade that used the format above, which is where I learned it and wrote all notes that way(despite how other teachers wrote thier notes out)

  3. Instead of using cursive writing, try printing.  That should help you decipher them easier later.  I know printing can be a bit slower than cursive, but even if you abbreviated words, they would be easier to understand later.  I print EVERYthing that I feel is important because my handwriting is so poor.

    I also used different color pens to help "sort out" changes of thought or information.  It helped a lot at test time.  Usually I could remember the info according to its color.

    I'm not real good at key points either, but vocab and definitions are definitely a given.  If the teacher repeats a certain thought a couple of times, there is a good chance that that point is very important, so jot it down.

  4. its okae for messy handwriting, as long as you can read it.

    big words, vocabulary: write them down!

    &the definition would be nice.

    people and places, also!
