3million learner driver details have gone missing now..... IN IOWA in USA.......It has been lost by a private contractor used by the driving standards agency to process the driving theory test .....

I would say that the best thing to do is contact the social security department and get them notified for your protection.

It is unfortunate, but with more and more agencies storing our information electronically, and contracting out their operations, I feel this will become more common. Going back to pen and paper may not be a realistic option, but maybe keeping the task of storing this info "in house" would be prudent. Then it doesn't have to be posted around the country, or around the world.

At least the DSA files are encrypted and useless to whoever finds the HD.

OH so why didn't you say. It wasn't a question until you added that bit. Like I said, so long as taxpayers want everything on the cheap, departments will contract out, even as far as America. Hand written files are never going to come back. We need departments storing and processing their own data.
