  1. Two year nursing programs don't really take 2 years. You would need to get the prequistes done first and then you may still be waitlisted since it is so competitve. It would be at least 3 years, maybe even 4.

LPNs make money, but it isn't as good as RN money and there would be less interesting job opprotunites and RNs may be hired over you in some situations. I think msot jobs are in nursing homes. Liek the 2 year nursing programs, it takes longer than people say because of how competitve it is and what you need to have compelted to get in.

THe 4 year programs give you more job opprotunities and better money. It still may take 5 years if you are working, but I think it is do-able in 4 years if you are deicated and don't have a lot of other commitments. Any of the poiopular speciaties like OB-GYN (babies) or the more advanced jobs would require this.

After getting BSN you could also go to graduate school to become a nurse practitioner. It takes a few years and usually you have to work in the field before starting the program but the money is good and the jobs are more specialized.

I reccomend getting your CNA to anyone that wants to be a nurse. It lets you see what its about. You will be washing old people, but thats what the start of nursing school is anyways. If you can't handle it you won't get through nursing school. Even if you want to work with kids or something else you will have to wash old people in nursing school, and you may not get that dream job right out of college.

Check out the sites below. It isn't perfect (especially information on education), but its a good place to start. Look into CNA training programs in your area (usually 75 hours, some are even free through nursing homes) and talk to real nurses in person.

  2. If you go for two years you can get an Associates RN degree and 4 years to get a bachelors in Nursing. Most LPN programs are 1yr (3 semesters), but I have heard of some 2yr programs.

LPN's are not utilized much in hospitals anymore and in most areas the pay is significantly less. In NC the pay is $12-$15/hr in hospitals but starting at $17+ in long term care facilities.
