Question:

Nutritious breakfast for exercise and concentration?

At the moment, I'm doing some serious horseback riding. Not trail riding, rather, gymnatics, jumping, and various other exercises that need a fair amount of energy, AND concentration. As I ride in the morning, I've been experimenting with my breakfast to see if it makes a difference. I've found that too much protein makes it difficult for me to get into my quick thinking, "concentration" mode, although it gives me the right amount of energy. I don't need to be bouncing off the walls-- I DO need to be able to relax and focus! What's the ideal breakfast?

Note-- I don't eat dairy, and I'd like to stay away from power drinks, bars, etc.

  1. If you are doing hard physical activity within 30 minutes of waking up, then I'd suggest drinking only a cup of freshly squeezed grapefruit juice or warm water with lemon.

Then AFTER your workout, I'd eat some breakfast.

However, if you are doing this exercise like 2 or more hours after waking up, then I'd start with a cup of warm water upon arising, and then wait 10 minutes and eat chicken & vegetables or fish and vegetables, or beans & vegetables, but stay away from grains in the morning or else you'll be wanting a nap within 2 hours of eating the grains.
