Just had an odd phone call at 7.30 pm. I am at my moms house while she is away - i answered the phone, the person on the other end asked if i was Mr ____ , (mom is remarried so noone else with my name), i answered yes, then the phone went dead. I phoned them back & it went straight to a message "You were contacted today by a fundraising organisation. Unfortunatly we missed your call & will endevour to contact you another time".

It is odd as hardly anyone knows i'm here. What do you think it could be???

The number was 01273 81**** which is from Lewes - E. Sussex - not far from where my sister lives.

  1. Messages from the 'other side'

  2. Try Googling the full number and seeing what comes up.

Did you used to live there?  Maybe they're working from a really old database or something.

  3. Hi there, I have had the same problem with an 01253 number, it rings me up when I answer the phone is put down, then later it rings me back tells me I was called earlier by a mortgage rep who would try again layer and if I didn't want them to, then ring a number and they would remove mine. I just ignored it, once you confirm these numbers then everyone starts ringing.

  4. There is a website you can register the phone number on, and see how many other people have received calls from that number. Google it.

  5. Dont worry about it, sign up to BT privacy and or register the number with the Telephone Preference Service (search for TPS).

  6. What do you mean what could it be??

The message told you what it was, a fundraiser.

These companies use computers to dial dozens of numbers at once. The operator talks to the first one to answer who he/she thinks sounds "co-operative and drops the rest of the lines. You were one of those dropped.
