Offensive tackle legal?

I've always wanted to do this but never known if it was legal.

So i've made a break and i'm in open space running towards the line. One of the opposition, just one, is chasing me and will undoubtedly catch me before the line.

Can i turn around and basically shoulder charge him as he gets close to me? In a sense an offensive tackle.

Okay, first of all I play number 8, PUNISH EVERYONE, yes that play is legal, otherwise you couldnt lower your shoulders any other time.  instead of a tackle however, use a stiff arm or like an open hand punch to the chest.  MUCH more affective!  But to answer your question, yes you can...and grubber (along the ground)  kicking is so hard to do, ive tried alot, and its worked out like twice.

cant tackle someone without the ball  you can only fend him off

i suppose you can, but that would be foolish.

the best thing to do in that situation is to run like a rabbit; side to side. keep going forward, but dont run straight.

also, wait until they are close by and then kick it forward. then you both have a 50/ 50 chance of getting it. but you can kick it the direction you want, and you will already have a slight head start.
