Question:

Official U.S vs China question?

So lately there has been a lot of arguing, here in yahoo answers and other places, about China and U.S. in the olympics.

So first of all, how do you Americans explain your total medal ranking which is solely used on American websites which puts U.S. on top while everywhere around the world gold medal ranking is used with China in the lead? That's like saying it doesn't matter how much money you have but how many total bills/coins you have.

Second whats with all the accusation of China cheating and unfair judges. Beside the gymnast age question, which the IOC has already resolved. You know a lot of those judges are Americans right? And why would other countries favor China anyways? Ohh and don't just go the Chinese bribed the judges and that Americans always play fair because they never do stuff like steroids.

This is mainly for Americans to answer and don't rant random accusations instead give a legitamite reason/sources. And before you answer think about what you would say if U.S. was hosting and winning in gold medals.

  1. If you've actually been watching the Olympics they do say that the countries which are competing cannot have judges from that country. They have other countries judging the events. And if you've actually been paying attention to the Olympics for the past however many years... we did host the Olympics. The winter Olympics of 2002 in Salt Lake. We didn't get the most gold. China has cheated on ages and they don't care. There won't be must evidence because the Chinese government has made the passports of these girls, so of course they are lying considering they said in November of 2007 that one girl (the uneven bar champion) just turned 14 and Chinese students said that they announced that 3 of their girls are under age.

  2. Thanks a million for posting this question. Look at the Yahoo Olympics section and take a look at the medals. They put US first just because they have won the most medals. GOLD is the important thing, and China has won twice as more as the US.

s***w the Americans who say they're country is unstoppable or the best. They're era is over for good. Thank god.

  3. those judges in the gymnastic event have been paid off

  4. Americans are use to being on the "High horse"...

So use to.infact..that when they lose an event, they automatically flail accusations, and play the blame game.

But mainly its towards China, who is giving the US a run for thier money at these games, but its MAINLY unsettling for some of them (not all), because of this.....

to see what was once a war-torn ghetto country, rebuild itself from ruins, establish an economy rivaling thiers, a military large enough to threaten, acquire state of the art technology, build nice stadiums and host the most lavish olympic games to date, and now....they beat us in athletics, and get gold medals,  ?!?

-----You can say China spent millions on training athletes, but i mean are you saying the USA doesn't?? Or Germany,The UK, Russia??

And how China is "Do or die" attitude but americans are "have fun" attitude?

------Olympians all train like crazy people, to get within the podium... All countries!!... You dont become an olympian by saying..."HEY lets just have FUN and play"..

And to say China is like that just because they're getting alot of Golds is just plain unfair..

  5. First of all Americans are the only ones looking at it as Us vs. China.  That says a lot.

  6. GET OVER IT!

  7. None of the judges are American or Chinese.

And who the **** cares if someone on YAHOO ******* ANSWERS says something against CHINA.

  8. Well we are basing ours on medals counts.. not gold medal counts. Our T.Vs and website still show the gold, silver, and bronze. So its not like they are saying oh U.S has 5 more medals then China, and that's it. We show were we are leading in medals and where we aren't. I don't see the big deal and why everyone is complaining about how we are showing are medal count. Its for Americans to see, not everyone else, if you freakin have a different way of showing the medal count than more power to ya. If your country was anywhere close I'm sure they would be doing the same thing.. so get over it! Now to your second... ya China is getting favoritism with all the judging comps.. funny how a tie goes to china, funny how a girl completely messes up on her second vault and still gets a medal, underage gymnasts ( which yes they are underage).. do i need to continue.... Funny how nobody is complaining about the events that dont need judges and how other countries are actually able to do better and get the medals they deserve...But what are we suppose to expect the Olympics are in China.. of course they are going to go towards them...

  9. Why are you people so concerned about Olympic medal table. It is not official. There is no first or second place in the Olympic.

  10. Gymnastic is their first complain.

Other complain still coming. For e.g. Men's 100m running, .........

    They are really annoying.

  11. The big reason that people are angry with China is that they have indeed cheated using under age athletes in order to have an edge over the gymnastic competition. The government had to be involved. It is well documented, and there has also been a former Chinese Olympian who has admitted that she was given false documentation in order to compete (and medal) in the 2000 Olympic games when she was under age. This in no way diminishes the great athletic performances of other Chinese Olympians who aren't cheating. I personally hope that the IOC drops the age requirement, and adopts a weight requirement. If you aren't 100 pounds or over...no Olympic gymnastics for you. That would be easier to enforce. Can't fake an official weigh-in wearing nothing but your underwear...ask UFC fighters.

All countries have their individuals who lose site of the spirit of competition and stoop to cheating in order to win. I hope that ALL cheaters, no matter which flag they represent, are caught, and stripped of their medals, dishonored, and banned from all athletic competitions for life! Nothing is worse than a cheater.

I think that in sports that are scored by highly subjective methods, the US tends to get screwed because many countries in the world hate Americans...and...sometimes we deserve it. We stick our noses into everyone else's business, and come off very arrogant. Sometimes, it is just bias on the other countries part. The US is not always the good guy in every circumstance, just as we are not always the bad guy.

The medal count has always been shown this way in America since I can remember (and I'm 41). It values all the finishes, not just first.

You have every right to root for, and be proud of ANY country that is competing. Just as I have every right to be upset that a country is getting away with cheating. They cheated not just the Americans, but the world. By cheating, they stole the soul from the competition, and the magic from the games...

  13. Lol I think you really touched a nerve on the Americans there. I love how they just start cussing and claiming themselves as the "majority". I bet half of these hilbillies didn't even read the whole question and just started making the same arguements over and over.

  14. Okay so the IOC accepted the passport given from china government. Now lets go to Alica and China girl for bronze. Alica had a tenth taken for each small hop. And was turn to perfect form. So that where hers came from. Now the China girl fell on her knees that .8 of a point. Also she had bad placement going onto the vault and could have been up .5. Also it was under rotated which could take from the starting difficulty. Alica easily did better than her but the china girls score were to high.

Now to Shawn Johnson. This was the closest one they both hit their tumbles fine. But where Shawn did better was on the dance part. China spun out and even though it an easy move you still have to do it right.

Now were at Nastia. China had good releases and the good combo. But she didn't get a few of the handstand and her feet brook these are all points off. Nastia feet didn't break and China had a small step. Nastia stuck it. Also her only error was with the cross over from high to low bar which wasn't as big as the handstand error.

  15. I would try to explain it to you, but I don't think your capable of understanding it.

You seem like just another pro-cheating, lying biased foreigner like so may on here are.

There are NO American gymnasts judges, I'm going to disregard the rest of your question because your incompetent.

If you don't like our medal ranking. to bad, we use it for Americans, not idiot morons.

  16. First off, the US media has always listed total medals (even when we cranked out 83 golds in LA) so this isn't a one time phenomenon.  And second your analogy is somewhat disingenuous.  If my 3 swimmers (that I coach) go silver silver and bronze, I'd be happy that they all won something as opposed to if one swimmer got gold and the other two got shut out.  That's just a difference in our value system (and frankly I prefer my value system over a totalitarian state).

Second, Yang Yun, a double bronze medalist in Sydney, has admitted that she was 14 that year, so the Chinese have cheated.  As for the allegations of the 3 gymnasts this year, the IOC didn't even check so don't pretend it's close to being resolved when the Chinese own registration records indicated that they were born in 1994.  Their "new" 2008 passports are the ones that claim they were born in 1992.

As for steroid, you know that's why the Chinese women disappeared from the Olympic swimming scene in 92 and 96?  Too much testosterone and it was blatantly obvious.

As for favoring China, there's a reason why no one has been hammering China too hard on Darfur and that's called the Chinese economy. It's pretty obvious if you study foreign policy and economics why countries don't try to p**s off Russia, China and the US, it's not good for their economic health.

Lastly, where are you from?  There are plenty of Americans that realize that we got home cooking back in Atlanta.  In fact most Americans are willing to criticize the US.  We're just not jailed for it like the Chinese are for criticizing their own country.

Peace and freedom, my friend.  Do you have any?

PS  I don't pretend that the US doesn't have cheaters.  I do however believe that cheating isn't institutionalized like it can be in China (since the sports system is run by the government).  Care to dispute that?

Also, along my thesis, China, Russia and the US can p**s each other off fighting for influence, I'm just saying that the other countries stay out of the way or are victims (ie Georgia, Vietnam, Iran, etc.)

I also like all the thumbs down.  Nothing like having a JD and a master's, being a Chinese American and having traveled all over the world and having some lightweights give you a negative review for pointing out some historical facts.
