I've just talked on the phone with a London Bank..('cos I'm working right now). and since it was all about bank account and stuff like that I could hardly speak properly... Oh God!!!I feel such an idiot ...!!! do you think it might be 'cos I don't speak quite a lot...??? I think writing is still fine but little by little I find difficult having a conversation without thinking ahead of what I have to say!!! when I was studyin in London it was so natural for me doing it.... (I was quite good!)

is it a serious problem, should I start studying business English or do you agree if I say that I wasted 2 years of my life studying in London (especially money) ??

tks ks

  1. Nobody understands wat the banks say.

  2. You are not such an idiot. Your English is pretty good. but if you don't use it you lose it. You should practice speaking English whenever you can. The more you do it the less difficult it is. I don't think you wasted your time or money studying in another country - great life experience. Good luck and be kind to yourself!

  3. I'm assuming that English isn't your first language? Lol.

Anyways, it's always best to try to keep up with any second language you learn. Tutor kids that are learning English in high/grade school, watch TV and listen to music in English, basically do whatever you can do to incorporate it into your life. It's never a waste to learn a new language!

  4. Experiences are never a waste of time.  I suggest you take the class.

  5. U sure have! Study Esperando instead!

  6. so what is your question?

  7. no, you're not an idiot. and you did not waste anything from studying in london. what you need to do now is practice and try to be more confident when communicating with others.

  8. No, you certainly haven't wasted your time. You should practice your english though.

  9. Language is just like any skill, if you dont use it, you loose it, so brush up on your language skills by regularly using it. One really good way is to sing an English song. That'll keep your language skills polished.

Back to talking on the phone. The next time, jot down your points on a piece of paper, so that you have your reference in front of you. It is also advisable to jot down whatever the person on the other end tells you, as it frames your mind for what is being said. That way, you dont forget anything that is said as the conversation goes along. Try it.

If you want to brush up on your Business English, buy the latest edition of the Economist Magazine, and read it aloud to yourself. Attending business meetings, conventions or exhibitions where English is spoken will help brush up the language as well.

    Good Luck.

  10. you have never wasted years of your life!! it was a good choise.

  11. You are not idiot, "mi querida Lisa", the problem arises when you try to talk using specialized jargon, and you are not an expert in that area. You are right when say that you must study business english, or at least, a handfull of business words.

You are very good with the Spanish, and it seems you are with English too. Do not discourage.

  13. No you are not an idiot, everyone gets "Tongue tied" sometime in there life, i have, a lot, and i am British, speaking English to another British person.

It's all to do with confidence, don't belittle yourself, Your first language is Italian, you can read write and speak both Spanish and English and you are still very young.

give it time, it will come to you.

I wish i could do half what you can.
